After years of cultivating the African market, Gong has also witnessed changes in local consumer perceptions: "As Africas economy develops, local peoples tastes and preferences are changing. In the past, many people liked big, hard bags; now they generally pursue products with novel designs and durable materials."
As a pilot zone for deep China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, Hunan is one of the most active provinces in central China for economic and trade cooperation with Africa. In recent years, economic and trade exchanges between Hunan and Africa have grown increasingly close, with the scale of cooperation continuously expanding. More and more Chinese luggage enterprises have begun to explore the African market, moving from going it alone to setting sail together.
Currently, Gong is planning to build a luggage industrial park to attract upstream and downstream enterprises including processing, material production, and logistics to settle in. Last year, he led his team to exhibitions in Africa and secured orders worth over RMB 60 million. "The African market has vast potential. My initial choice was correct," Gong said.
Industry insiders point out that as competition intensifies and trade barriers rise in traditional European and American markets, emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East are becoming new growth points for Chinese luggage exports. Enterprises need to deeply understand local market demands and adjust product strategies to gain a firm foothold in emerging markets.
