OEM Giants Turn Around: Brand Breakthrough in Progress
The traditional OEM model is increasingly unable to support the sustainable growth of the luggage industry, and building independent brands has become the general trend. Statistics show that in the first eight months of 2024, the national export volume of travel goods and luggage increased by 9.3% year-on-year, while export value decreased by 2.1%. The trap of "high output, low profit" is forcing enterprises to climb up the value chain.
Wu Aijing, WGSN trend consultant, interpreted the "WGSN Spring/Summer 2026 Accessories Trends" report, summarizing future luggage trends into three themes: "Extraordinary," "Nurturing," and "Playful." "Extraordinary" emphasizes problem-solving products that address user pain points; "Nurturing" integrates green environmental concepts; "Playful" resonates with young consumers through design.
New Market Exploration: From Red Ocean to Blue Ocean
Data shows that European and American countries remain the largest target markets for Chinese luggage exports, but this traditional market is forcing industrial upgrading with higher entry barriers. Meanwhile, emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America are becoming new growth poles.
Experts point out that Southeast Asia has a population of approximately 670 million, making it the worlds third-largest population circle, with an average age of about 29 and very strong consumption willingness — it is emerging as a new gold-rush destination for the luggage industry. However, enterprises need to note that the Southeast Asian market has already become stratified, and low prices are no longer a magic key — consumers also value quality, design, and brand memory points.
Transformation Path: Three Forces Synergize
Cracking emerging markets does not rely on a single action but on the synergy of three forces: letting customers see you through exhibitions, letting customers approach you through channels, and finally letting customers stay through brands.
Industry insiders say that Chinas luggage industry is in a critical period of transformation from "quantity expansion" to "quality improvement." Only by adhering to technological innovation, design empowerment, and brand building can we truly achieve the leap from "Made in China" to "Chinese Brand" and win more influence in global market competition.
